Snailpost is slow mail between people who already know each other. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your data or show ads.
What we store
- Account: an anonymous identifier from Sign in with Apple. We do not receive your email unless you choose to share it, and we don’t ask for it.
- Profile: your display name, username, snail avatar, language and time zone.
- Your city, never your location: we store the centre point of the city you choose. If you use “approximate location”, your phone turns it into a city on the device; the coordinates are never sent to us.
- Letters: the text you write, the paper and wax you chose, and the journey we compute. A letter’s text is only ever sent to you (the writer) and to the recipient once it has arrived.
- Friends, invites, blocks and reports you make. A report, with the letter it is about, is emailed to our moderator so it can be reviewed.
- Purchases: App Store transaction identifiers, to unlock Snailpost Plus and express stamps. Payment details stay with Apple.
- Device push tokens, to tell you when a letter is on its way, arrives or is opened. Notifications never contain a letter’s text.
What other people can see
Friends see your display name, username, snail and city. A public tracking link shows your display name, the two cities and the journey — never the letter’s text. Journey images and videos you share show cities, distance and postmarks only.
Service providers
Cloudflare (hosting and database), Expo (delivering push notifications), Apple (sign-in, payments, notifications). They process data only to run Snailpost.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete account removes your account, profile, letters, friendships and purchases records from our database immediately. Backups expire within 30 days.
Children
Snailpost is not for children under 13.
